popular culture

The culture that we live in today has influenced our everyday lives since we were born. Popular culture is focused around the idea of what is on television or what is mostly advertised. I believe that everyone is influenced by the media at some point in their life. If may be from the latest trend in clothing or what kind of gum to buy. This influence may cause someone to buy a certain product or more rarely cause someone to buy something else. In this case, I believe the person may be trying to be an individual by refusing to purchase the advertised items. When this occurs I have seen that many other people join the efforts of this want to be individual. From one person a group forms and now they are the one that influenced the others by being influenced themselves to object the norm.
For myself, I do not care what is the most popular or where I get my clothing or computer products as well as electronics. Any material possession is not worth the hassle of getting what is the new. I am however particular with what matches most of the time. I have been influenced to that extent I enjoy matching.
I like how popular culture is seen as an opposite of folk culture. It is true, even though they have common roots. Most of the immediate family networks of communities are seen as the folk culture, but the big city areas are seen as the popular culture. In the smaller network of families folk culture is more predominate because a sense of tradition has been formed. Whereas in the large cities change is more common.

Neet article, but I think you should focus on your experience more. You said you like "matching" and I assumed clothes... Do you match what is popular?

I like your view of folk culture. I believe that folk culture is very different than pop culture, seeing as it is not the popular way of living. Folk culture is such an interesting subject to look into. I love the idea of extended families being so close and living kind of separated from popular culture. I think it would be interesting to look more into folk culture and what makes it happen.
